Sara Dowling

BIO

Sara is a curator and collaborator, based in Limerick, Ireland.

She holds a Research MA in Curatorial Practise, completed as the Curatorial Scholar for EVA International, Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art (2017-2019). She was the first Irish emerging curator for the Creative Europe project MagiC Carpets led by Kaunas Biennial Lithuania, an international selector for Athena Standards Residencies Athens, and a Douglas Hyde Student Forum member at Trinity College Dublin. She was also an artist-in-residence at Mudhouse Residencies Crete, and has exhibited in group shows across Ireland and abroad.

Sara is a keen researcher, valuing active knowledge share, cross collaboration and cultural exchange. She was a co-founder of PeakShow Exhibitions ’18-’19 – an independent exhibition platform for emerging graduate artists in Limerick, and later the Vice President for Postgraduate Affairs with the Union of Students in Ireland. Over the year of the pandemic, in addition to the Creative Europe Wom@rts Training Program, she has recently completed Contemporary Curating, Curating & Money – an online course supported by Zurich University of the Arts. She also leads an informal support group for arts facilitators across Ireland who are navigating COVID-19 restrictions in their work.

Sara is based at Limerick City Gallery of Art, overseeing the online programming platform www.limerickgallerypages.com.
