Nicola Long

BIO

Nicola Long is an Irish printmaker and visual artist. Nicola graduated with a BA (Hon) in Printmaking and Contemporary Practice from Limerick School of Art and Design (2020).

Her work examines the female presence in society and the mass movement of women throughout time. Nicola uses photography, monoprint, cyanotype and digitally produces prints. Screen-printing is at the core of her practice and plays a central role in the formation of the construction of the image.

Working intuitively she starts out with a vague idea of composition and structure – beginning by layering colours, building on them with images and shapes, she develops her own bag of imagery. Working like this opens up a space for a more playful way of producing prints and embracing the fluidity of this whole process is crucial to her practice.

Nicola has exhibited work locally and internationally and recently showed a new body of work entitled Amor Fati at the Limerick City Gallery of Art exhibition Impact (2020).

Nicola is also a member of Limerick Printmakers where she continues to grow and expand her visual practice.
