Maura McHugh lives in Galway, Ireland and has published three collections – Twisted Fairy Tales and Twisted Myths – in the USA, and The Boughs Withered When I Told Them My Dreams, by British publisher NewCon Press in August 2019. It was nominated for a British Fantasy Award for Best Collection in 2020. In 2019 her short story ‘Bone Mother’ was adapted into a stop-motion animated short film, and her science fiction rom-com radio play, The Love of Small Appliances, was broadcast in June 2019. She’s written comics for Dark Horse, Atomic Diner Comics, and 2000 AD, and her monograph about David Lynch’s iconic film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, was nominated for a British Fantasy Award for Best Non Fiction. She’s also a published poet, playwright, screenwriter and writes for video games.
Throughout her life she’s also created art and has a daily photography habit. For the Comics & Illustrators Residency in Angoulême, France, organised by Wom@rts, she wrote/drew/lettered/coloured a large two-page comic book narrative called ‘Interview with a Sphinx’.
